Intermittent incontinence, which is not regular, takes the ruling of permanent incontinence. The Hanbalis hold that a person with incontinence must perform ablution after the time for each prayer begins if anything is discharged, and pray with this ablution as many obligatory and supererogatory prayers as they wish. If nothing is discharged, then ablution is not obligatory.

However, if the matter becomes difficult, it is permissible to act upon the view of the Malikis, who permit performing ablution before the prayer time, as they do not consider the discharge of incontinence to invalidate ablution; rather, ablution is recommended but not obligatory.
