The husband must provide housing and maintenance for his wife. If the husband becomes unable to provide maintenance, the wife may refer her case to the judiciary and request separation, or she may endure it, which is preferable. This right belongs to the woman, not to her guardian, so the father is not allowed to compel his daughter to divorce if she is content to remain with her husband. Obedience to the husband takes precedence over obedience to parents. If the wife leaves her husband's home without his permission, she has committed a sin. If understanding is not reached between the spouses, then arbitration between them should occur. If reconciliation efforts are unsuccessful, the wife may request a divorce.
