What should I do regarding the interference of my wife's family, specifically her mother, in my marital life, and her father's refusal for my wife to return home with me, and their demand for khulʿ without a legitimate reason, knowing that I spent exorbitant amounts on the marriage? Do I have the right to legally demand what I paid, or sue my wife for abandoning me without cause, or sue her father for preventing me from exercising my legitimate right?

Undermining a wife against her husband is a major sin, and its perpetrator is cursed, due to the family disintegration it causes. The wife's family must fear Allah and rectify what they have corrupted by returning their daughter to her husband. The wife must repent and return to her husband, for seeking divorce without a valid reason is forbidden, and the scent of Paradise is forbidden to her. However, if the wife has a valid reason to seek divorce, such as the husband's disobedience or mistreatment, then there is no sin upon her. The husband is advised to try to reconcile with his wife and her family; if he fails, he may accept khula' (divorce by mutual consent) and request the return of the dowry and marriage expenses he paid, and he may also request her to relinquish custody of the children.
