Did our master Joseph, peace be upon him, love the wife of Al-Aziz?

In Adwa' al-Bayan, Al-Shanqeeti (may Allah have mercy on him) explained the interpretation of Allah’s saying (and she had desired him) in two ways:

The first interpretation is that Yusuf (peace be upon him) felt a mere heartfelt inclination towards her, which was then averted by the restraint of piety. This was a natural inclination or an instinctive desire, which is condemned by piety, but not considered a sin. This is similar to the inclination of Banu Harithah and Banu Salamah to flee on the Day of Uhud. The "desire" here refers to affection and lust.

The second interpretation, which is Abu Hayyan’s choice, is that Yusuf (peace be upon him) did not feel any desire at all, because his desire was linked to the absence of seeing a clear proof, but since he saw the proof, the desire vanished. This statement aligns with the rules of the Arabic language regarding the precedence of an omitted answer in contexts such as (lola - if not for).

Al-Shanqeeti emphasized Yusuf’s innocence of the indecency, basing his argument on the testimony of everyone involved in the incident (Yusuf, the woman, her husband, the women, the witness) to his innocence, and Allah’s testimony to that effect in His saying: (Thus it was, that We might avert from him evil and indecency. Indeed, he was of Our chosen servants), and Iblees's admission that he cannot mislead the sincere (al-mukhlasin), and Yusuf is among them.
