Is it permissible to accompany a group of people who use foul language, backbite, and smoke, knowing that the scarcity of righteous companions leads to isolation, which negatively affects my personality and my desire to build relationships?

Isolation from bad companions is better for a believer, and patience with solitude is easier than associating with corrupt individuals. Indeed, Al-Bukhari dedicated a chapter in his Sahih titled: "Isolation is a comfort for the believer from bad company." In a similar vein, Abu Dharr said: "Solitude is better than a bad companion."

Although the general principle in Islam is to mix with people to enjoin good and forbid evil, isolation becomes better if mixing results in evil or religious temptation, and one is unable to bear it patiently.

Accompanying people of sin while they are committing their sins is not permissible unless one denounces their actions. Otherwise, one must leave their gathering, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: {And when you see those who engage in [offensive] discourse concerning Our verses, then turn away from them until they enter into another conversation. And if Satan should cause you to forget, then do not remain after the remembrance with the wrongdoing people.} So, whoever does not avoid them has condoned their actions. Therefore, there is no good in accompanying those who speak vulgar language, backbite, smoke, and do not pray, especially if advice is ineffective with them.
