Is it legislated to show good character to non-Muslims based on Allah's saying: "And speak to people good words," and His Messenger's (peace be upon him) saying: "And accompany people with good character"? What is the ruling on befriending friends who commit some Sharia violations, and is it obligatory to boycott them based on the hadith: "Do not accompany anyone but a believer"?

It is prescribed to exhibit good character and fairness with non-belligerent disbelievers. Friends who commit sins should be treated with kindness and compassion, and their good qualities should be utilized to guide them, unless this negatively impacts your religion or you sit with them while they are committing the sin. It is not permissible to abandon them if they are not openly defiant in their sin; rather, they should be advised, and one should leave their gatherings if they persist in sin. However, it is obligatory to abandon them if you fear for your religion.
