What is the ruling on the profession of a barber, and is it disliked to eat and drink from his house, and is it considered a lowly profession?

There is no explicit text that prohibits or disfavors eating from the earnings of a barber. What the Shafi'is concluded, by analogy to the earnings of a cupper, regarding the disfavor of eating it due to its perceived baseness or contamination with impurities, is contrary to what is sound, and the earnings of a cupper are lawful, not unlawful. The more preponderant view is that the earnings of a barber are lawful and permissible to eat, and there is no disfavor in it, nor should it be analogized to the earnings of a cupper. Nevertheless, it is not permissible to eat from the earnings of a barber if it is known that he earns from unlawful means, such as shaving beards, plucking eyebrows, or performing qaza’ (a forbidden haircut). If he mixes lawful and unlawful earnings in his work, then eating from him is disfavored. However, if his work is exclusively confined to the forbidden, then eating from him is not permissible.
