Imam Al-Shafi'i (may Allah be pleased with him) was afflicted with hemorrhoids and other ailments in the last years of his life. He used to chew frankincense to strengthen his memory, yet he suffered from hematemesis for a year. Ibn Habib used to take frankincense dissolved in honey in the mornings to strengthen memory.
