What is the ruling on someone who applies his intellect to everything, even to the verses of the Qur’an, believing that all human beings are equal in their right to life and its enjoyment without being bound by religion, and what is the ruling on sitting with him and eating with him?

Arbitrating the intellect in the rulings of Sharia is a deviation and misguidance. Religion is taken by Sharia, not by intellect. There can be no contradiction between Sharia and a sound intellect. Equating a Muslim with a non-Muslim, if the intention is their right to life, then there is no harm. However, if the intention is that they are equal in truth and falsehood, then this is secularism, which is a call to establish life upon other than religion. It is not permissible to cohabitate with someone who has been advised and shown the truth but did not accept it, except out of necessity.
