What is the ruling on selling pork in non-Muslim countries if it is the sole source of livelihood, or if there is another source of livelihood?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
Pork is forbidden by the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and scholarly consensus. Whatever Allah forbids, He also forbids its price. Therefore, it is not permissible to sell it to Muslims or others. A Muslim must fear Allah so that He may provide a way out for him and sustain him from where he does not expect. The doors of lawful sustenance are many, and it is not permissible to work in that which is forbidden except in cases of extreme necessity, such as fearing death by starvation. The unlawful is unlawful at all times and in all places, because its Prohibitor is Allah, the Creator.
