What is the wisdom behind mentioning the number "seventy" in His (the Most High) saying: "Ask forgiveness for them or do not ask forgiveness for them. If you ask forgiveness for them seventy times, Allah will not forgive them"?

The mention of seventy in the noble verse signifies exaggeration and multitude, and is not intended to specify a precise number, because Arabs use seventy in their speech to denote abundance. This is the view held by Ibn Kathir and Ibn Ashour.
