Must I abandon my studies and return to my home country due to the difficulty of maintaining the face veil (niqab) and being compelled to shake hands with men while working as a doctor in America?

The preponderant view is the obligation for a woman to cover her face in front of non-mahram men, unless it is genuinely impossible to cover it and there is a religiously valid interest that can only be achieved by uncovering it. In such a case, it is permissible to adopt the view that does not obligate covering it, provided there is security from fitnah (temptation), and this should be only to the extent of the need, while avoiding adornment and mixing. It is not permissible to shake hands with non-mahram men. A Muslim woman should be proud of her religion and adhere to the limits of Sharia, and not be lenient to please people, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever seeks the pleasure of Allah through the displeasure of people, Allah will suffice him against the burden of people. And whoever seeks the pleasure of people through the displeasure of Allah, Allah will entrust him to the people." If she cannot maintain the limits of Sharia, then she should return to a Muslim country.
