What is your opinion on someone who says that a miracle is not extraordinary, based on Allah’s saying: "So you will not find any alteration in the way of Allah, nor will you find any deviation in the way of Allah"?

Miracles are extraordinary events that defy ordinary norms, a fact affirmed by religious texts, common sense, and reality. The miracles of the prophets, such as Moses' staff turning into a serpent and the parting of the sea, Jesus bringing the dead to life and creating birds, and water gushing from the fingers of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him—all these are phenomena that contravene the usual course of things.

As for the Holy Quran, it is the miracle of all miracles. Allah Almighty challenged jinn and humans to produce anything like it, or even a single surah from it. This demonstrates that it defies ordinary norms. Therefore, the claim made by anyone that the Quran did not defy ordinary norms is a grave falsehood.

The definition of a miracle as an extraordinary event that defies ordinary norms is not exclusive to the Mu'tazila; rather, it is the consensus of the majority of scholars. As for deducing from the Almighty’s saying, "And you will never find in the Way of Allah any change, and you will never find in the Way of Allah any alteration" (33:62), that miracles do not defy norms, this is an incorrect deduction. The Quranic context clarifies that what is meant by the "Way of Allah" here is the seizing of wrongdoers and disobedient ones.
