Did the Messenger intend to divorce Lady Sawdah due to her old age, and is it permissible for a man to divorce his wife for this reason?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, intended to divorce Sawdah bint Zam’ah when she became elderly, but she preferred to remain with him and gave her day to 'A'ishah. Scholars have used this as evidence for the permissibility of a husband divorcing his wife due to old age, unattractiveness, or similar reasons. They based this on the statement of 'A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, regarding the verse: "And if a woman fears from her husband high-handedness or estrangement," and the statement of 'Ali ibn Abi Talib in its interpretation: "It is the woman who is with a man, and his eyes turn away from her due to her unattractiveness, or her poverty, or her old age, or her bad character, and she dislikes separation. If she waives some of her dowry for him, it is permissible for him to take it. And if she gives him some of her days, there is no blame." This refutes those who believe that a man should not divorce his wife if she becomes old.
