What was the reason for the cessation of revelation to the Messenger, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, and what was the duration of this interruption, and what did the Prophet do during this period?

The revelation to Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, ceased on two occasions. The first was at the beginning of the revelation, after which Surah Al-Muddaththir was revealed. The second was after several surahs had been revealed, after which Surah Ad-Duha was revealed. Estimates for the duration of the first cessation varied, while the second cessation lasted for two or three days. The purpose of the cessation of revelation was to remove fear from the Prophet, peace be upon him, to make him long for the return of the revelation, to strengthen the believers, and to test the people. The cessation affected the Prophet, peace be upon him, with sadness, but claims that he contemplated suicide are false.
