What was the reason for the revelation of Surat Ad-Duha?

Surat Ad-Duha is a Meccan surah. The reason for its revelation was the cessation of revelation to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, which led the polytheists to say, "Muhammad has been abandoned," or for some of their women to say, "I do not see your companion but that he has forsaken you." So the verse was revealed: "Your Lord has not forsaken you, nor has He detested you" (Qur'an 93:3); in response to their statements and in affirmation of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. It is reported in the Two Sahih collections that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, fell ill and did not pray at night for one or two nights. A woman from the polytheists then said to him, "O Muhammad, I do not see your devil but that he has left you." Thereupon, Allah revealed the verses.
