Does the sign of the sun rising from the west mean that it will rise from the direction of the west, or that it will rise at the time of sunset?

Authentic Ahadith indicate that one of the signs of the Hour is the sun rising from the west, and that this is a sign of the closing of the door of repentance. When it rises, all people will believe, but their belief will not benefit a soul that had not believed before, or had not earned good through its faith. Most exegetes have concluded that this is what the verse refers to: ﴿The day that some of the signs of your Lord will come, no soul will benefit from its faith if it had not believed before, or had not earned good through its faith.﴾ [Al-An'am: 158]. Al-Qurtubi mentioned that after the sun rises from the west, it will revert to its previous pattern of rising and setting.
