What is the ruling on missing Friday Prayer due to work circumstances that may coincide with Friday?

Whoever hears the call to Jumu'ah (Friday prayer) and is obligated to attend it, must answer the call, for Allah Almighty says: (O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu'ah, then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade. That is better for you, if you only knew.)

If the worker is far from the mosque such that he cannot hear the call, or is outside the town, then Jumu'ah is not obligatory upon him and he should pray Dhuhr. However, if he hears the call or is within the town, then he must attend it.

There is no obedience to a created being in disobedience to the Creator. Therefore, the five daily prayers must be performed in the mosque in congregation, and the Muslim must be patient and seek reward from Allah in this matter, for Allah will grant him ease after hardship.

However, if leaving work at the time of Jumu'ah prayer results in harm, such as machines breaking down or fires, or if there is a public interest for Muslims, or a private one such as fear of theft or damage to property, then it is permissible to be absent from it and pray Dhuhr.

As for being absent from Jumu'ah prayer for the sake of increased profit, production, academic achievement, or a higher salary, it is not permissible in Islamic law.
