What is the solution when a wife's excessive jealousy causes problems that lead to estrangement and physical altercations?

The husband should strive to reform his wife. He should admonish her and remind her of his rights. If she does not respond, he should forsake her in bed. If that does not work, he may hit her with a non-bruising blow. He should deal with her wisely and treat her kindly, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, advised. If these means are not effective, two arbitrators from his family and her family should intervene for reconciliation or separation. The husband must strive against his own self and remain steadfast in obedience to Allah, drawing closer to Him in all circumstances.
