The answer

Linguistically, Sunnah means a customary way of life or a habitual practice. Islamically, it refers to the sayings, actions, tacit approvals, and characteristics of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. The Sunnah is divided into three types: verbal Sunnah, which are the prophetic narrations (hadiths); active Sunnah, which are his actions, peace and blessings be upon him; and tacit Sunnah, which is his silence in not disavowing a saying or action that occurred in his presence or of which he became aware.
