When exactly is the soul breathed into the fetus? Is it after 40 days or 120 days? And how does the heart begin to beat without the presence of the soul, taking into account the prophetic narrations that speak of the stages of creation?

The stages of the nutfa (sperm/zygote), alaqa (clot), and mudgha (lump of flesh) occur during the first forty days of pregnancy. Then, the fetus is formed into a human shape during the second forty-day period. There is no definitive text that specifies the exact time of the ensoulment (blowing of the soul), but it does not occur until after the completion of the mudgha stage, i.e., after the first forty days. Most scholars agree that ensoulment takes place after 120 days (four months), based on the apparent meaning of Ibn Mas'ud's hadith, where creation progresses to a new stage every forty days. The presence of heartbeats and movements of growth and nourishment before ensoulment does not mean that the soul has been blown into the fetus.
