What is the ruling on taking anything from the beard, and what is the meaning of Ibn 'Umar and Abu Hurairah taking from it, and did any hadith from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prohibit taking from the beard?

Shaving the beard and trimming it is forbidden because it contradicts the Prophet's command (peace and blessings be upon him) to let it grow. Many jurists have permitted trimming what exceeds a fistful, based on the practice of some Companions like Ibn Umar. However, it has not been reported that Ibn Umar used to do this generally outside of Hajj and Umrah; rather, he would not trim anything from his beard when he intended to perform Hajj until he had completed it.
