Is there a contradiction between the prohibition of asking for perpetual well-being (al-afiyah) and the Prophet's (peace be upon him) supplication: "O Allah, I ask You for pardon (al-afw) and well-being (al-afiyah) in this world and the Hereafter"?

None of the commentators on Hadith have said that the requested 'afiyah (well-being/health) encompasses safety from all afflictions, for that would be asking Allah for something He has not decreed. The servant is inevitably afflicted by what he dislikes, such as death, its pangs, and the desolation of the grave. Therefore, the generality of "al-afiyah" mentioned in the Hadith refers to a specific meaning, i.e., the 'afiyah that is not withheld from someone like me. An example of this is the supplication: "O Allah, grant me the best of this world and the the Hereafter," because granting him all the good of this world and the Hereafter is impossible.
