Did the Angel Gabriel reveal the verses to the Messenger more than once, and is this the reason for the multiplicity of Qur'anic recitations?

Some verses of the Holy Quran, such as Surah Al-Fatihah, were revealed more than once to honor them and signify their great status, as mentioned by Al-Suyuti. As for the variations in readings, the reason for this is that the Quran was revealed in seven ahruf (modes/dialects) to facilitate ease for the Ummah, as stated in the prophetic Hadith: "Gabriel recited to me in one harf, and I kept asking him to increase it, and he kept increasing it for me until he reached seven ahruf."
