What is the ruling on working in the legal profession under man-made laws that do not apply Islamic Sharia except in cases of inheritance and personal status?

Muslim rulers must govern by the Sharia of Allah, and it is not permissible to apply man-made laws. The general rule is that it is not permissible to work in anything related to man-made laws, such as judgeship and lawyering, and it is not permissible to seek judgment from them except out of necessity. A lawyer may work in this field under certain conditions, including: disavowing these laws, not pleading in cases that contradict the Sharia, ensuring that their work is for upholding justice and supporting the oppressed, and that rights cannot be obtained except through these courts. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen was asked about the ruling on a lawyer working with man-made law, and he stated its permissibility if it is for defending the truth and delivering it to its rightful owners. Furthermore, the work of a lawyer is not limited to matters that contravene Sharia, but also includes consultations, drafting contracts, and other services.
