Was it said that Ibn Hazm permitted singing? Is this true?

Ibn Hazm is well-known for permitting singing, but the singing he permitted differs from the singing prevalent today on channels and in theaters, which includes definitively forbidden elements like immodest display (tabarruj), brazen mixing of genders, and incitement to immorality and debauchery. This type of singing is forbidden by all scholars, including Ibn Hazm. Anyone who transmits Ibn Hazm's permission for singing must clarify the restrictions and controls, because stating his permissibility without elaboration leads to a misunderstanding. Furthermore, Ibn Hazm's permission for something explicitly forbidden by a clear text from the Sunnah of the Prophet does not benefit one in the sight of Allah, because following the Messenger is obligatory.
