What is the ruling on using fabric softener that contains alcohol, knowing that it is essential to avoid static electricity and roughness of clothes, and that the family members are the ones who buy and use it?

There is no harm in using alcohol in products, medicines, and foods because it transforms into permissible, non-impure substances during manufacturing, either through istihalah (transformation of essence) or istihlak (dissolution). Therefore, there is no objection to using fabric softener. We would like to remind here of the scholarly disagreement regarding the ruling on a small amount of water if it mixes with an impurity. The view of the Malikis and Ibn Taymiyyah is that water does not become impure unless its characteristics change.
