What is the ruling on lighting fire in charcoal and throwing frankincense on it, then circling with it in the house, or placing it under or on top of a slaughtered animal to ward off the evil eye and envy? And what is the ruling on hanging a fish tail, plastic eyes, or a hand (hamsa) in means of transport for the same purpose?

Slaughtering an animal when moving into a new house is permissible as an act of gratitude to Allah, an expression of joy, a welcoming gesture to well-wishers, or as charity. However, it is strictly forbidden if done to ward off the evil eye or jinn, and it is considered polytheism (shirk) if it is an act of seeking closeness to the jinn, because worship is not permitted to be directed to anyone other than Allah.

Similarly, hanging amulets to ward off the evil eye is forbidden, and it is considered major polytheism (shirk akbar) if one believes that they ward off the evil eye by themselves.

As for incense (bakhoor), it is permissible for fragrance, but it is not permissible to use it for healing or with the belief that it wards off the evil eye. This is an act of charlatans and among the customs of the Sabians and Christians.

The correct ways to make homes blessed are by reciting Surat Al-Baqarah, performing abundant supererogatory prayers, reciting the Quran, remembering Allah, and ensuring that the house is free from evil deeds.
