The question

Is self-loathing and anger towards children and one's husband, in addition to the difficulty of maintaining prayer and concentration, and an aversion to the remembrance of Allah, normal under the circumstances of pregnancy and marital problems, or does it indicate the heart being turned away from the right path?

The answer

Allah's mercy is vast, and a Muslim should seize it and repent to Him to enjoy tranquility and facilitation of affairs in this world, and win Paradise in the Hereafter. However, persistence in sins brings misery and punishment. The cause of distress might be neglecting prayers, in addition to the hardships of pregnancy. The cure lies in striving against one's self to perform prayers and righteous deeds, abandoning sins, and being patient. The husband must be a support for his wife in overcoming this anxiety. One must be wary of complaining about Allah's decrees, as complaining contradicts contentment with divine decree, which brings tranquility and happiness. Remember your need for Allah, His absolute richness, and His power over you. Your enemies are Satan and the soul that incites to evil. Increase your acts of seeking forgiveness (istighfar), reciting the Qur'an, and maintaining prayers, and seek the company of righteous women.
