Will a believer be rewarded for the distress and sorrow that befalls him due to his shortcomings in taking necessary measures, and will the consequence of this shortcoming be good for the believer if he is patient and content?

Anguish is sometimes a result of negligence in taking the necessary precautions, as happened to the Companions in the Battle of Uhud when they disobeyed the command of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, which led to their anguish, as mentioned by Allah Almighty: "Then He repaid you with distress upon distress." Ibn Jarir Al-Tabari interpreted this verse as a punishment for their flight and disobedience, while Al-Qurtubi interpreted the first distress as killing and injuries, and the second as the spreading of rumors about the Prophet's death, peace and blessings be upon him, or the first as missing out on victory and spoils, and the second as killing and defeat. Nevertheless, this anguish, despite being caused by negligence, is considered an expiation for the Muslim and is rewarded if one perseveres, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "No fatigue, no disease, no anxiety, no sorrow, no harm, no worries, or even the pricking of a thorn afflicts a Muslim but that Allah expiates some of his sins by it."
