How can one deal with a husband addicted to smoking, who refuses to quit despite its health and financial harms and its negative impact on the children, and who threatens when attempts are made to stop him, knowing that the children suffer from the smoke and the family is in dire need of money?

If a woman is harmed by the smell of her husband's mouth due to smoking and cannot avoid the harm, she is permitted to refuse him. However, if it is merely a matter of disgust and no harm results, she must obey him. The husband should fear Allah regarding himself and his family, for smoking is a waste of money, harmful to oneself and others, and its smell is foul. The wife is advised to be patient, continue offering advice, and be kind.
