The question

Is it a condition when performing ablution (wudu') and ritual bathing (ghusl) to combine the intention of rendering acts of worship permissible with the intention of removing the ritual impurity (hadath), and does the ruling differ for someone afflicted with chronic prostatic fluid discharge (sals al-madhy) compared to an ordinary person?

The answer

An ordinary person intends by their ablution (wudu) or ritual bath (ghusl) to remove minor or major ritual impurity (hadath), and that suffices them. If they intend something for which purity is obligatory, such as prayer (salat), their ritual impurity is removed. As for a person afflicted with urinary incontinence ( سلس البول ) or similar conditions, they should not intend to remove ritual impurity, because their condition is continuous. Rather, they should intend to make prayer or similar acts permissible, as Al-Bahuti said: "However, a person whose ritual impurity is continuous should intend permissibility, not the removal of ritual impurity."
