Is it obligatory to perform ablution after eating camel meat, and what are the prophetic hadiths reported concerning this?

Imam Ahmad and most of the Hadith scholars held the view that eating camel meat nullifies ablution, contrary to the three Imams (Abu Hanifa, Malik, and Al-Shafi'i). Imam Ahmad argued using prophetic narrations, among them the hadiths of Jabir ibn Samurah, Al-Bara' ibn 'Azib, and Usayd ibn Hudayr, which command ablution after eating camel meat but not after eating sheep meat. Imam Al-Nawawi was of the opinion that what Imam Ahmad went by is the correct view, and that perhaps the hadith was not authenticated by Imam Al-Shafi'i. Ibn Khuzaymah stated that he did not see any disagreement among Hadith scholars regarding the obligation of ablution after eating camel meat. Al-Nawawi, in "Al-Majmu'," indicated that the older opinion (al-qawl al-qadim) regarding the nullification of ablution by camel meat is the most preponderant based on evidence.
