If polygyny is permissible for men so that some women are not left without marriage, then why is polyandry not permissible for women for the same reason? And is the purpose of marriage only to satisfy sexual desire, even though Allah created Adam and Eve—one man and one woman—so is this His intent?

Islam permitted marriage and forbade fornication for great purposes, among which are the preservation of lineages and the resulting legal rulings and social rights. This is something that many non-Muslims lack. Polygyny achieves these purposes to a greater extent, especially with the increase in the number of women and the decrease in the number of men. The choice is either to allow lawful polygyny to include the surplus of women within marital protection, or for huge numbers of women to remain without lawful marriage, which exposes them to vice. As for polyandry (multiple men for one woman), it is corruption and pure evil that destroys the fabric of society, squanders rights, and produces children without known lineage. This was not even reached by humanity in its ignorance, and it is a destruction of a woman's morality and status.
