What are the Quranic verses and Prophetic hadiths that indicate Islam's call for renewal and its embrace of contemporary issues?

The texts that have been transmitted indicate the universality of the Prophet's mission, peace and blessings be upon him, and that this religion is suitable for all times, encompassing new matters in every era. Among these texts are the words of Allah Almighty: "And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds," and His saying: "And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a bringer of good tidings and a warner to all mankind." And the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "A prophet used to be sent specifically to his people, but I have been sent to all mankind."

Among the proofs that Islam encompasses all matters of people is the saying of Allah Almighty: "And We have sent down to you the Book as clarification for all things and as guidance and mercy and good tidings for the Muslims." The Islamic law came with universal principles and general rules that enable the mujtahids (qualified scholars) of the Ummah to research new matters and bring them under one of these principles. And it has been narrated concerning renewal: "Indeed, Allah will send forth for this Ummah at the turn of every hundred years someone who will renew its religion for it."

One must be wary of what some people might call renewal, the reality of which is a distortion of the religion and a demolition of fundamental principles of Islamic law.
