How can one come to love reciting the Qur'an and be diligent in it?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The questioner must not be lazy in performing the obligatory prayers in the mosque. If that is not possible, then he should pray with his family members. Abandoning congregational prayer when one is able to perform it is sinful, according to the preponderant opinion. He must strive to read the Qur'an and make it a daily portion. Perhaps what prevents him from reciting the Qur'an is a sin between him and Allah or between him and people, so he must repent. Some scholars said: "If days pass and the Book of Allah has no share in your days, then weep over yourself." He should continue listening to the Qur'an, but this does not reach the level of direct recitation nor does it suffice in its place. We advise him to fear Allah and beware of abandoning the Qur'an. Allah Almighty said: "And the Messenger will say, 'O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qur'an as [a thing] abandoned.'" And among the types of abandoning it is not reciting it.
