Is it permissible for a wife to abandon her husband in bed for a long period, under the pretext of ritual purity for prayer, or to refrain from foreplay during menstruation for fear of invalidating ablution?
A wife is not permitted to abandon her husband in bed, and she must obey him if he calls her. The coldness of water does not allow her to refuse; rather, she can heat it or perform tayammum if unable to do so. If she is menstruating, it is permissible to enjoy her, excluding the anus and the vagina, and this does not prevent enjoyment of the area between the navel and the knee from behind clothing.
The wife must fear Allah and know that the right to the marital bed is among the greatest rights of the husband. Severe warnings have been issued against a woman who refuses her husband's bed. It has been reported in the Hadith: "If a woman spends the night abandoning her husband's bed, the angels curse her until she returns," and in another narration: "until she wakes up." Also: "A woman does not fulfill the right of her Lord until she fulfills all the rights of her husband, even if he asks for herself while she is on a camel's saddle, she should not refuse him." And the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "If a man calls his wife for his need, let her come to him, even if she is at the oven."
