What is the ruling on a husband praying at home despite the mosque being close by, and is it correct for the wife to remind him of the necessity of praying in the mosque? And how can the husband rid himself of the habit of constant arguing? And what is the way to bring vitality back to the marital relationship in the absence of affection, especially with the age difference?
The correct view is that congregational prayer is obligatory upon men in the mosque. Whoever prays in his home without a valid excuse has disobeyed and sinned, though his prayer is valid according to the majority of scholars. When advising your husband, be gentle and wise, and if the advice causes problems, then leave it. Remind your husband of the detestability of argument, for the Prophet said: "I guarantee a house in the outskirts of Paradise for whoever abandons argument even if he is in the right." As for gloom and apathy in the home, they are due to negligence in obedience and committing sins, because Allah has made contentment and joy in His obedience, and sorrow and distress in His disobedience. Allah the Almighty said: (Whoever does evil will be recompensed for it). Whatever anxiety, sorrow, and gloom befalls a believer atones for his sins.
