Is outstanding rent considered old debt or current rent? And is the questioner entitled to a compensatory gift (nafaqat al-mut'ah) commensurate with the husband's income, taking into account her concessions? And is the husband's promise to buy a wedding ring considered a debt upon him?

The wife has the right to maintenance according to what is customary, which is an adequate amount for food, housing, and clothing, taking into consideration the circumstances of both spouses. If the wife paid the rent for the dwelling with the intention of claiming it back from her husband, he must give her what she paid.

If the husband divorces her, she is entitled to her full mahr (dowry) – both the immediate and deferred parts – the maintenance for her iddah (waiting period), and mut'ah (compensatory gift) according to some scholars.

The mahr is determined by what was agreed upon in the marriage contract. If the ring (dublah) was part of the agreed-upon mahr, then it is obligatory. If it was not, but he promised it, then it is recommended to fulfill the promise.

The estimation of mut'ah and maintenance is left to the discretion of the judge, and in case of dispute, the matter is referred to the Sharia court.
