Is the saying of the majority of jurists a proof for adhering to the Jama'ah and the Greatest Multitude?

Many texts have been narrated urging unity and shunning division, among them the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him: "Allah's hand is with the جماعت (congregation)," and the saying of Umar, may Allah be pleased with him: "Hold fast to the congregation and beware of division, for Satan is with the one, and he is further away from the two." Also, there is a command to follow the majority when there is disagreement, such as the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him: "If you see disagreement, then adhere to the vast majority." This hadith indicates acting upon the opinion of the majority. Nevertheless, the opinion of the majority is not always correct; rather, what is correct is that which has strong evidence, even if those who hold it are few.
