Is it permissible for a contractor to continue his work in the textile industry, which sometimes obliges him to produce immodest clothing, if refraining from doing so would lead to the closure of his factory?
It is not permissible to produce immodest clothing except under two conditions:
1. Commitment to selling it only to those known to wear it exclusively in front of their husbands, mahrams, and Muslim women. 2. Selling it in a country where most of its people do not display their adornments in front of non-mahram men, so that it is highly probable that it will be worn only in front of those for whom it is permissible.
If you are unable to adhere to these two conditions, it is advisable not to produce such clothing. Allah will compensate you with something better. Allah Almighty says: (And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out And will provide for him from where he does not expect).
A skilled merchant can innovate ways to promote their goods, such as choosing unconventional sizes or focusing on the quality of materials, excellent craftsmanship, and reasonable prices.
