Does divorce occur for the wife if the husband swears to divorce falsely so that she believes him?

Swearing by divorce falsely is a grave sin. It is effective according to the majority of scholars, and the wife is affected if she is still married to the husband. If the total number of divorces reaches three, the wife becomes unlawful to him until she marries another man. If the divorce is less than three, she can be taken back before the 'iddah (waiting period) ends, or by a new contract after it ends. The view of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah is that swearing by divorce falsely does not necessitate divorce or an expiation for an oath, but rather repentance. However, the stronger opinion is that of the majority of scholars.
