When performing ablution (wudu), should I wash the inside of my eyes with water?

It is not legislated to wash the inside of the eyes during ablution (wudu') or ritual bath (ghusl); rather, it is harmful to them. The face that is obligatory to wash is what is apparent, not what is concealed, and a person is not required to wash his eyes. Some scholars mentioned its desirability in ghusl, but the correct view is that it is not a Sunnah in either wudu' or ghusl, because the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not do it nor did he command it, and it entails harm. What was narrated about Ibn Umar, regarding his excessive insertion of water into his eyes until he became blind, is evidence of its reprehensibility. Therefore, it is sufficient to wash the face without introducing water into the eyes.
