What is the Mizan in light of the Qur'an and Sunnah?

The Mizan (Scale) is mentioned in the Holy Quran, where deeds or things to be weighed are placed on it. Those whose scales are heavy will succeed, and those whose scales are light will lose. A servant's good deeds might outweigh their bad deeds by a single one, leading them to Paradise, or vice versa, leading them to Hell. Or they might be equal, making them among the people of Al-A'raf (the Heights). However, Allah's grace is vast for whomever He wills, as long as they are not polytheists. The Mizan is also mentioned in the Prophetic Sunnah, where a great, fat man will not weigh the wing of a mosquito with Allah, and "Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi, Subhan Allah Al-Azim" (Glorified be Allah and praised be He, Glorified be Allah the Most Great) are two words heavy in the Mizan. Allah may save a man from His nation whose scrolls of deeds are spread out, and then weighed against a card containing "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is His Messenger," causing the scrolls to be outweighed. The description of the Mizan is that it has two physical pans in which scrolls, persons, or deeds are weighed. The weighing of deeds occurs after the reckoning is complete, and the weighing is to show the measure of deeds so that the recompense can follow. It does not apply to everyone, for those who enter Paradise without reckoning will not be weighed.
