Is it permissible for a husband to force his wife to live with his family in one house, and to divide the house in which she and her husband live for the sake of his brother's marriage, knowing that this has led to problems, aggressions, and severed ties of kinship?

The husband has the right to manage his home and to house whomever he wishes. The wife has the right to an independent and suitable dwelling, and she cannot be forced to live with any of the husband's family members. An independent dwelling means a part of the house that is separate with its own facilities.

The husband has the right to prevent his wife from visiting her family, and vice versa, if he fears they might corrupt her.

If the husband abuses by insulting or beating without justification, the wife has the right to seek divorce due to harm.

Divorce is inherently disliked in Islamic law and should only be resorted to when all means of reconciliation have failed.

Part of good companionship is for each spouse to treat the other's family kindly.
