What is the authenticity of the Hadith: "Whoever is apologized to by his Muslim brother, and does not accept his apology, then upon him is the like of the one who takes unjust taxes (sahib maks)"?

There are five narrations (hadiths) mentioned concerning the grave sin of one who rejects his Muslim brother's apology, but it is important to clarify that all of them are weak and not authentic.

1. "Whoever does not accept the apology of his Muslim brother, will not come to My Hawd (pond) and will not enter Paradise." (Narrated by Al-Hakim in his Tarikh from Ibn 'Abbas, and Al-Daylami from Ibn 'Abbas and Abu Hurairah. Al-Albani said in "Al-Silsilah Al-Da'ifah" (No. 6050): "Mawdu' (fabricated).")

2. "Whoever accepts the apology of his brother, accepts a blessing; and whoever does not accept the apology of his brother, will have a sin like that of a tax collector." (Narrated by Al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab Al-Iman" from 'Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her. Al-Albani said in "Al-Silsilah Al-Da'ifah" (No. 1017): "Munkar Jiddan (very denounced).")

3. "Whoever apologizes to his brother, and he does not accept his apology, he will bear a sin similar to that of a tax collector." (Narrated by Ibn Majah in his Sunan from 'Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her. Al-Albani said in "Da'if Ibn Majah": "Da'if Jiddan (very weak).")

4. "Whoever is apologized to by his brother and does not accept his apology, it is as if he committed a sin, and he will not meet me on the Hawd." (Narrated by Al-Tabarani in "Al-Awsat" from Ibn 'Umar. Al-Albani said in "Al-Silsilah Al-Da'ifah" (No. 403): "Munkar (denounced).")

5. "Whoever does not accept the apology of his brother, will not meet me on the Hawd." (Narrated by Al-Tabarani in "Al-Awsat" from Jabir. Al-Albani said in "Al-Silsilah Al-Da'ifah" (No. 403): "Munkar (denounced).")

Despite the weakness of these hadiths, the principle of accepting an apology from one who apologizes is not invalidated. Rather, it is one of the noblest characteristics and a cause for love and affection. It builds bridges of communication and strengthens bonds among Muslims.

Ibn Hibban said: "It is incumbent upon the intelligent person, when his brother apologizes to him... to accept his apology and treat him as if he had not sinned."

Al-Ghazali said: "Everything that can be construed in a good light, and for which an excuse can be conceived... is obligatory according to the rights of brotherhood."
