Are the customs and traditions, including marriage through the custom of "Sidi al-Bashir" with a dowry of 69 millimes, and the suitor offering food only out of fear of the wali (guardian), and the slaughter of a sheep or calf in the name of the wali before the wedding, considering it a blessing from him, along with warnings of the wali's wrath for anyone who violates this, considered an innovation (bid'ah)? And how should the correct dowry for a wife be assessed to adhere to obedience to Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, peace be upon him?

Legislation concerning marriage is derived from the Qur'an and Sunnah. The aforementioned custom includes innovations and superstitions:

1. Fearing harm from a saint (wali) is major shirk (associating partners with Allah).

2. Specifying a dowry has no basis, as there is no maximum limit for it.

3. Offering sacrifices to a saint out of fear of calamities is major shirk; "May Allah curse whoever sacrifices to other than Allah."

These customs must be avoided, and one must repent from them. To determine the wife's dowry, please refer to Fatwa no. 33611.

To follow the correct path in obeying Allah, one must acquire beneficial knowledge and consult people of knowledge. Among the recommended books on marriage are: "Tuhfat al-'Arous" (The Bride's Gift), "Muqawwimat al-Sa'adah al-Zawjiyah" (Elements of Marital Happiness), and "Risalah ila al-'Arousain" (A Message to the Two Spouses).
