Is it sufficient to place water next to the reciter of the Qur’an to obtain blessings, or must one place a hand on it? And is it disliked to place a hand on the abdomen during recitation with the intention of seeking provision of a child?

It is permissible, according to Islamic law, to perform Ruqyah on water by having the reciter read something from the Qur'an, Dhikr, and Du'a, then blow into the water with some of his saliva for the patient to drink. It is not necessary to place a hand on the water during Ruqyah. Furthermore, one should not intend Ruqyah during prayer; rather, one should intend recitation. If it is absolutely necessary, then one may intend Ruqyah along with recitation. It is also prescribed to place one's hand on the painful area when performing Ruqyah, saying: "Bismillah (In the name of Allah)" three times, and "A'udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhir (I seek refuge in Allah and His power from the evil of what I find and what I fear)" seven times.
