Is one who abstains from eating pork or drinking alcohol out of necessity (severe hunger), and dies as a result, sinful?

We have previously clarified the consensus of scholars on the permissibility for a desperate person to consume carrion, pork, and the like, to the extent that it sustains life and saves the soul from perishing, if nothing else is available. We concluded that the obligatory view is the relied-upon one. According to the view that it is obligatory to eat from these forbidden things what sustains life, if the desperate person refrains from doing so and dies, then he is sinful for causing his own death. However, according to the view that it is not obligatory, he is not considered sinful.
