What is the ruling on asking my mother about a Sharia ruling?

If a person is unsure about a religious ruling, they should ask the people of knowledge, as Allah the Almighty says: "So ask the people of the message if you do not know." The common person is obliged to ask the most knowledgeable people of their time and country about their new predicament. Therefore, it is permissible to ask one's mother about religious rulings she has knowledge of, and it becomes obligatory to ask her if there is no one else or no other way to learn the ruling.
